Long Beach on the grid. There isn't much time to get a good shot of all that's happening in those 30 minutes before a race. Drivers show up pretty late, so one has to aim the camera at whatever else interesting is happening. Unposed shots like this one are my favorite. Using long lenses on grid or in the pits allows to isolate moments like this one without sticking a camera in people's faces; something that usually results in a plastic "say cheese smile" and takes away any reality from the image. Reality is what's already hard to find at such mega-media corporate circus shows like a CART race.
