PPG Industries named official automotive paint and refinishing supplier of CART

Championship Auto Racing Teams announced today that PPG Industries, a CART sponsor since 1980, will remain the "Official Automotive Paint and Refinishing Supplier," of CART.

The agreement was announced by CART Executive Vice President and CFO Randy Dzierzawski.

CART's agreement with PPG covers not only the FedEx Championship Series but also the CART Dayton Indy Lights Championship and the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship.

"We are pleased to be able to continue our relationship with PPG," said Dzierzawski. "They are a longtime supporter of CART and Champ Car racing and it's good to have them on board with this program."

Financial terms of the two-year agreement, with an option for an additional six years, were not released but as part of the arrangement, PPG will provide the assets of its Pace Car program to CART.

"The Pace Car program has long been a favorite with attendees of our races," said Dzierzawski. "We are talking with a number of potential sponsors and hope to be able to feature a Pace Car program during our 2000 season."

PPG's commitment includes providing paint for use on race cars in the three CART series. Also, each participant in CART racing will be eligible to win the annual PPG Color and Design Award. The winner of the award in the FedEx Championship Series will receive $10,000 while the Dayton Indy Lights Championship award winner will receive $5,000. The Toyota Atlantic Championship winner will receive $2,500.

"PPG has always been at the cornerstone of Champ Car racing. The pageantry of the sport is in part due to the world-class paint and refinish products PPG has provided to our teams," said John Rowady, General Manager of ISL USA. "We are delighted we were able to work out this agreement."
