Forsythe withrdraws team over franchise issue

HILLIARD, Ohio (March 16, 2000) -- Forsythe Championship Racing has withdrawn its entry for the 2000 FedEx Championship Series due to the CART Franchise Board's failure to ratify the public (Delaware) Board of Director's grant of a third franchise to Gerald Forsythe. The franchise was earned as a result of completing a full season of CART competition in 1999. The decision to withdraw was announced today by Team Owner Gerald Forsythe.

The team will continue its testing and development program with Bryan Herta and the Swift chassis powered by Honda with the goal of reentering CART competition pending a resolution of the franchise issue.

Herta is currently testing at Firebird International Raceway, near Phoenix, Arizona. He posted a best lap of 46.97 (seconds) at the close of testing yesterday on Firebird's east road course.

As the factory Swift team, Forsythe Championship Racing has exclusive use of the new 011.c Swift chassis. The joint venture with Swift Engineering was announced in December of last year, with Herta taking his first laps on January 20th in a shakedown test at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California.
