Newman Haas Joins Celebrities in "Kids Race Against Drugs" Kick-Off Event

Andretti, Newman, Fittipaldi and others to appear April 13 at KMart in Carson, CA

WHAT:Kmart Kids Race Against Drugs "National Celebrity Kick-Off" Stars race the clock in miniature sports cars on a specially designed track. The National Celebrity Kick-Off is a major stop on the 90-city Kmart Kids Race Against Drugs 2000 tour that will visit over 667 Big Kmart, Super Kmart and Kmart stores to raise money for local drug and alcohol prevention charities.

JUST FOR KIDS: For each child who races in a Kmart Kids Race Against Drugs event, Kmart donates $5 to a local drug and alcohol prevention charity. At this event, Rrepresentatives from these Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, Race Against Drugs and Recording Artists Against Drunk Driving (RADD) organizations will be present at the race, to ask that each entrant make a pledge to remain drug-freewill each will receive a donation of $10,000 from The Kmart Family Foundation..

Plus, The Kmart Family Foundation will award $15,000 in donations to the favorite drug and alcohol prevention charities of the celebrity racers, with the top prize going to the celebrity racer with the best time.

A pre-selected group of children from the Los Angeles area have been invited to participate, and will have the chance to take a spin around the track and interact with the celebrities.

WHY: The Kmart Family Foundation has donated more than $8 million to drug-fighting organizations through grants and grassroots programs like the Kmart Kids Race Against Drugs, a national program for children ages 7-12 to teach them the dangers of drug abuse.
