One-day Affair On Memorial Day Weekend

April 15, 2000, Long Beach CA: CART announced Saturday that the Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix Presented by Toyota at Nazareth (Pa.) Speedway, postponed due to inclement weather on April 9, will be televised live by ESPN at 1 p.m. ET Saturday, May 27.

The event was postponed after two inches of snow, coupled with high winds, visited the Speedway on race day. Defending race and FedEx Championship Series champion Juan Montoya (Target Toyota Lola) earned the pole position a day earlier with a lap of 176.868 miles per hour (19.255 seconds).

The event will be completed as a one-day affair. On-track activities will begin with a one-hour practice session/warm-up, beginning at 9 a.m. ET. Cars will be gridded beginning at 12:15 p.m., with the green flag scheduled for 1 p.m.

"We appreciate the hard work on the part of ESPN and Nazareth Speedway to come up with a live TV window for this event," CART Vice President of Broadcasting Keith Allo said. "It was obviously very disappointing when we had to postpone the race, but we feel that broadcasting the event live presents the best situation for our fans."

Commenting on the hour-long practice/warmup, CART Vice President of Competition/Chief Steward J. Kirk Russell said, "Since we'll have been away for almost two months [by race day], we need to give our drivers time to reacclimate themselves to the facility and go through their normal warm-up routine."

The rescheduled Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix Presented by Toyota becomes the fifth event of the 2000 FedEx Championship Series season, following the May 13 Firestone Firehawk 500 at Motegi, Japan.
