Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc. Expands Board of Directors

Board adds three new members

DETROIT (May 2, 2000) - Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc., announced today that it has added three members to the company's Board of Directors, bringing the total number of directors to 12.

The announcement was made at CART's annual meeting conducted in suburban Detroit.

The CART Board was expanded to 12 members with the addition of CART Champ Car team owner Barry E. Green; MCI WorldCom Chairman Bert C. Roberts; and Motorola executive Frederick T. Tucker. Additionally, each of the nine existing members of the company's Board were re-elected.

"The addition of Barry Green, Bert Roberts and Fred Tucker will considerably strengthen our Board of Directors," said Andrew Craig, chairman and chief executive officer for CART. "They bring a range of experience that will be valuable to the Board as we move forward with the implementation of our corporate strategy."

Green is president and sole shareholder of Indianapolis-based Team Green, Inc., which he formed in 1994. Green's initial season of CART Champ Car racing was in 1995, when he won the CART season championship as well as the Indianapolis 500 with Jacques Villeneuve as driver. Team Green finished the 1999 CART season in second and third place in the points standings. Team Green driver Paul Tracy leads the 2000 CART FedEx Championship Series standings heading into the May 13 Firestone Firehawk 500 at Twin Ring Motegi, Japan.

Tucker is president, Semiconductor Products Sector and executive vice president and deputy to the CEO of Motorola, Inc. He is a veteran of Motorola who joined the company in 1965. Tucker has served in a variety of senior management positions within the company. He also has served as a trustee of Rochester Institute of Technology since 1986.

At MCI WorldCom, Roberts heads up one of the world's largest communications companies. He was named chairman and CEO of MCI in 1992 after serving as the company's president and chief operating officer since 1985. Additionally, Roberts serves on the Boards of Directors for Valence Technology, Inc., Telefonica de Espana, News Corporation Limited, CAPCURE and Johns Hopkins University.

In addition to Craig, those re-elected to CART's Board were: Gerald R. Forsythe, president of Forsythe Racing and chairman and CEO of INDECK Power Equipment Company; Chip Ganassi, president and owner of Chip Ganassi Racing Teams, Inc; Carl A. Haas, CEO of Carl A. Haas Auto Imports and managing partner of Newman/Haas Racing; James F. Hardymon, who retired as chairman and CEO of Textron, Inc. in 1999; Bruce R. McCaw, president of PacWest Racing Group was founder of McCaw Cellular Communications (now AT&T Wireless); U.E. "Pat" Patrick, a founding member of CART in 1978, president of Patrick Racing and chairman of the board of Patrick Exploration, Inc.; Robert W. Rahal, co-owner of Team Rahal, Inc. and three-time CART series champion as a driver; and Derrick Walker, president and owner of Derrick Walker Racing, Inc.
