Will start testing in F1 car in December

Indianapolis, Ind. (September 21, 2000) - The BMW WilliamsF1 Team announced today that reigning CART champion Juan Pablo Montoya (25) will partner Ralf Schumacher for the 2001 season. Juan Pablo is being released with the blessing of Chip Ganassi and will replace Jenson Button who is being temporarily released from his driving contract at the end of this season.

Juan Pablo, who currently drives for Target Chip Ganassi Racing in the CART FedEx Championship Series, has signed a two-year deal with the BMW WilliamsF1 Team.

The Colombian’s first ever outing in a Formula One car was on 1st December 1997 as WilliamsF1 test driver. He drove the FW19 at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona and had accumulated over 8,000km of test mileage until his departure to North America at the end of 1998. Juan Pablo will reacquaint himself with Formula One when official testing duties commence from 1st December onwards with the BMW WilliamsF1 Team.
