First Outing with 2001 Honda/Reynard A Success

Indianapolis, IN-- Despite the chill in the air Team Motorola got a hot start to the New Year at Sebring International Raceway. On Tuesday and Wednesday Andretti put the first laps on the 2001 Honda/Reynard. Although the test started a bit slow for the team after an electrical problem limited their running to only 75 miles on Tuesday, they ironed out the problem in the afternoon and ran a full day on Wednesday.

On Wednesday Andretti and the team completed 200 trouble free miles with times in the low 51-second range. Team Manager Tony Cotman oversaw the test and was pleased with the results. "It was our first time out with the 2001 Honda/Reynard and we were very pleased with the consistency of our runs. We spent most of the day Wednesday working on the mechanical set-up of the car, configuring things that we had learned from our previous test. We gained a lot of ground and set a good baseline for our next test."

Cotman was also very pleased with the way the newly formed Team Motorola personnel worked together during the test. "It's always a bit challenging your first time out with a new package and with our team being new it's an added dynamic. Team Motorola did a great job. Michael gave great feedback to the teams' engineer, Eddie Jones, and everyone worked well together. That alone is a great result from this test."

Andretti, experiencing his first amount of extended seat time in the new package, was similarly happy with the test. "I really got an opportunity to get comfortable in the car over the last two days. The first day we had some problems but my teammates did a great job of working them out and giving me a great car for Wednesday. We were able to accomplish everything we set out to do and the car was very reliable. I was quite happy with the Honda engine and the car just felt good overall."

Team Motorola now heads to Fontana for the CART FedEx Sneak Preview and will resume testing in early February at Homestead.
