20 Race Schedule Begins In St. Petersburg, Florida

INDIANAPOLIS (August 11, 2002) - For the first time since 2000, the CART FedEx Championship Series season will both start and end in the United States, kicking off with a new temporary street circuit in St. Petersburg, Florida and ending at the always-exciting two-mile California Speedway oval.

Building a schedule that is representative of the many different types of courses that the drivers must master to win the Vanderbilt Cup, Championship Auto Racing Teams Inc., (NYSE:MPH) released its 20-race slate for the 2003 season today at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

The season gets underway on February 23rd - the first time a CART event has taken place in the month of February - and wraps up with the season finale at Fontana on November 2. The schedule reflects the diverse challenges that make CART champions some of the most versatile in all of motorsports, featuring short ovals, superspeedways, permanent road courses and temporary street circuits.

Schedule makers have also made things easier on teams by spacing the 20 events more evenly, avoiding the runs of three and four weeks in a row that were found on the 2002 slate. The schedule features two short ovals, a superspeedway, seven street courses and eight road circuits. Two events are still to be determined with venues and dates to be announced at a later date.
