Robby Gordon And Scott Goodyear
Will Compete In U.S. 500

On May 26, 1996, Walker Racing will enter two cars at the inaugural U.S. 500, one driven by two-time IndyCar winner Robby Gordon in the Valvoline/Cummins/Craftsman Special and one by two-time Michigan 500 winner Scott Goodyear in the Valvoline DuraBlend Special.

Gordon scored his two IndyCar victories last year with Walker Racing, his first on the one-mile oval in Phoenix and his second at the ITT Automotive Detroit Grand Prix.

After not being able to race at the Michigan 500 last season because of a concussion he suffered in Friday’s practice session, Gordon is looking forward to getting another chance at claiming a victory at Michigan International Speedway.

"I really wanted to race at Michigan last year, but I couldn’t get the medical clearance to do that no matter how hard I tried," Gordon said.

Gordon is viewed as one of the top contenders fort the 1996 PPG Indy Car Championship.

"Running at Michigan on May 26 will keep our championship drive on target," Gordon said.

Scott Goodyear scored Walker Racing’s first Indy Car victory at the Michigan 500 in 1992. He stood at the top of the podium again at the conclusion of the 500-mile race in 1994.

"In 1992, that was my first IndyCar victory," Goodyear said. "Needless to say, that track holds some special memories for me. I’d like to come out of that race as a three-time Michigan winner."
