Fredrik Ekblom To Sub For
Goodyear At U.S. 500

In an article at the SpeedNet Website, it has been reported that Fredrik Ekblom will substitute for Scott Goodyear at the inaugural running of the U.S. 500 on May 26.

This information was available in a press release dated, May 7, 1996, from Walker Motorsports

"This is the best thing that could happen to a driver in my situation -- not having a ride," Ekblom said.

"It's outstanding. Walker is one of the best teams out there and it's unbelievable that I'll get to have the opportunity to drive for this team at this race."

Ekblom has competed in only two IndyCar races. One at Detroit in 1994 and the 1995 season finale in Laguna Seca.

"We were very fortunate to have Fredrik available to drive for us," Walker said.

As previously reported by SpeedCenter, Scott Goodyear will be in the booth with Bob Varsha providing color commentary for qualifying and the race.

Goodyear is tentatively cleared to return for the ITT Automotive Detroit Grand Prix, June 7-9.
