Fabi Breaks Foot In Bicycle Accident

SPEEDCENTER (May 10, 1996) - SpeedCenter has learned that Teo Fabi sustained two minor fractures in his right foot on Sunday as a result of a trail bike accident which occurred while Fabi was riding near his Monte Carlo residence. Fabi will be wearing a plastic cast for the next two-three weeks.

The prospects of him actually competing in the Inaugural U.S. 500 are unsure at the present time.

"Our crew had just finished preparing Teo's car and we felt that he would have been very competitive in the race," PacWest President Bruce R. McCaw, said. "While our prospects are not promising, we have not totally ruled out the possibility of qualifying on race weekend. It is simply too early to tell."

ABC Renews Indy 500 Contract Until 1999

SPEEDCENTER (May 10, 1996) - It was announced Friday that ABC has renewed its contract with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway until 1999.

This timing is a bit ironic as both the feuding IRL and IndyCar are staging races on the same day; May 26, 1996. A day that has been tradition for the Indy 500.

ABC officials have expectedly remained mute in making any public comments.
