SpeedCenter Update

VANCOUVER, Washington (June 25, 1996) - As many of you are aware, SpeedCenter's server had a major hiccup over the weekend which delayed updating the site for the Portland race. In fact, there was another hiccup last night (Monday) which has further delayed site updates.

This now seems to be under control and our ISP administator is monitoring the site closely. SpeedCenter has been moved to a new server and is being tweaked for maximum efficiency. We appreciate your patience during this change.

We were able to conduct three interviews over the weekend with Paul Page, Mark Blundell and Scott Pruett. These interviews are in the process of being transcripted from tape and will take awhile as we have about one hour of recorded material to go over.

Jimmy Vasser was not feeling well and that was obvious during the press conference on Saturday after qualifying. He looked tired. Alex Zanardi had prior commitments and simply did not have the time as is the same with Mauricio Gugelmin. Danny Sullivan was not available at the time I interviewed Paul Page and I had other commitments to attend to, also.

We are attempting to arrange more interviews in the future, either in person or by telephone with the people we missed at Portland and more!

For those of you who are not aware, SpeedCenter is under the control of a "staff" of two people. Myself and Peter Burke. We attempt to provide a timely and concise IndyCar news service for our customers. We are operating this project out of our own pockets and with ZERO budget.

Our philosophy when we started this project is to make it a free service to the Internet and the World and that is still our goal. When we secure a sponsor or two and have a REAL budget from which to operate, that will give us the ability for both Peter and I to attend each and every race, and provide live updates directly from the track via a laptop (or two).

That is another reason why information was delayed from the Portland race as the entire staff was at the track with no one else at a computer terminal to update the site until the day's sessions were complete. We have made some good contacts in the last two weeks and we hope to make a major announcement soon.

SpeedCenter has become very popular and we had fans from over 50 nations log onto the site in May!

Thank you for your continued support and patience as SpeedCenter grows and matures.
