Luyendyk Looking For a CART Ride?
Arie chats with Max Papis Arie Luyendyk was seen talking to just about everyone last weekend at Mid-Ohio. So, was he "just visiting" or is this IRL driver looking to get a CART ride? No conversations were overheard and SpeedCenter will not speculate at this time, but it kinda makes you wonder in this flip-flop world of Indy-type racing these days.

SpeedCenter to Interview Max Papis At Elkhart Lake
SpeedCenter will be interviewing Arceiro-Wells driver, Max Papis at Elkhart Lake this weekend. We are giving the fans an opportunity to present questions to this rookie IndyCar driver, a.k.a. "Mad Max."

To send your questions in, just email them to The Editor, and we will try our best to present your question to Max on Friday afternoon.

Where's Robby Gordon Going?
Robby Gordon's last drive for Walker Racing will not be the final CART/IndyCar race at Laguna Seca, but none other than the IRL race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 15. Word has is that Robby is being courted in a big way by NASCAR car owner, Felix Sabates. A decision is expected to made this week.

All this when just recently it was reported that the deal was "all but signed" with the Team Kool Green in 1997. Guess not! Maybe Robby should not have kicked the crap out of his car at Mid-Ohio?

In all seriousness, Robby Gordon, and several other Ford-Cosworth drivers are very unhappy with the reliability of the powerplant. Michael Andretti and Scott Pruett have also voiced publicly their frustration with the Ford-Cosworth package.

And Team Kool Green will evidently be running the Ford-Cosworth engine in 1997. Looks like Robby might be rubbin' some fenders next year....

Forsythe To Field Two-Car Team In 1997
It looks at though that Patrick Carpentier will join Greg Moore on the Players/Forsythe racing tem for 1997. John Forsythe is in the process of working out the details with Players and an announcement is expected by the end of the month.

Carpenter currently races in the Toyota-Atlantic series and is the current points leader and is looking very good to be on his way to the championship having earned his fifth straight win last weekend at Mid-Ohio.

1997 IndyCar Schedule - U.S. 500 Future In Jeopardy?
Where is it? 16 races? 18 races? 20 races?!?! The 1997 was supposed to be released in June/July, but due to television schedule juggling with ABC/ESPN and the Indy Racing League, the schedule still has yet to be released.

Roger Penske is said to be adamantly against running two IndyCar races at MIS. Many had speculated that the California Speedway would play host to the 1997 U.S. 500, but that will not be. The California Speedway will be the last race of the season in 1997 after Laguna Seca.

The Texas Speedway and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway are being courted by IndyCar, so we could see a possible 17-18 race season in 1997.
