ELKHART LAKE, Wisc. (August 16, 1996) - Three IndyCar drivers will be making their third appearance at Michigan International Speedway after final qualifying tomorrow at Road America.

Robby Gordon, Al Unser Jr. and Scott Pruett will fly to Brooklyn, Michigan immediately after qualifying Saturday to compete in the final race of the 20th International Race Of Champions (IROC) series.

Gordon leads the series, that is far from being international, with 42 points. Al Unser Jr. is second with 38 points.

"I love racing in IROC and I want to win the championship," Gordon said. "I think it would be great for my career."

Your future NASCAR career, Robby?

Scott Pruett is in the hunt with 33 points, just behind three NASCAR drivers; Mark Martin, Terry Labonte and Dale Earnhardt.

The field is skewed with an over-abundance of NASCAR drivers and differs greatly from the early days of IROC when it was a truly international series with drivers from all over the world. IROC also used to race on road courses as well as ovals. The current series only races on ovals, but does provide for some typical, exciting, NASCAR-style, last-lap excitement.

Nevertheless, the drivers always have fun in what is basically a 'Saturday Night Trophy Dash.'
