Fast Cars, an award winning one hour documentary, originally shown on the PBS series NOVA, will debut on ESPN2 on September 8 at 1:30 PM.

About the film, Emerson Fittipaldi said, "It was a thrill for me to be involved with a NOVA episode about IndyCar." The program follows Emerson to his win at the 1993 Indy 500, but it is much more than just a racing story - it is a deep look into the science and art of high tech automobile racing.

RACER magazine called it "...a much more complex film that goes beyond the science to explore the motivation, discipline and athleticism required for success." AUTOWEEK said that "...it figures to introduce a whole new audience to the complexities - human and scientific - of modern racing."

Featured is Bobby Rahal and his attempt to build his own car which ends in dramatic defeat at the Indy 500, a turning point in the film and a reminder of just how difficult it is to design a car that must cope with the terrific forces at Indy.

Jim Hall also makes an extended appearance to explain the complexities of aerodynamic science as applied to racing. He, you may remember, was the 'father' of downforce, introducing wings and aerodynamic tunnels on his famous Chaparral racing cars.

The film was originally premiered to an audience of veteran racers nd press in Bobby Rahal’s suite at Indianapolis in 1995. "Everyone as mesmerized by it and burst into applause when it ended," reported the Bloomington Herald-Times reviewer.

Now you, too, have a chance to see what the program is all about on Sunday, September 8, on ESPN2 at 1:30PM.. The film was produced, directed and written by Sam Low and Bob Burns.

Special note from The Editor: I saw this show when it originally aired on PBS and consider it a "must-see" for any IndyCar fan. There is something there for everyone, from the most knowledgable fans to the novice. If you have not seen this show, make the time or crank up the VCR!
