Jim Hall retired as of 1996, but the all-too-familiar yellow Pennzoil car that has been a tradition in IndyCar racing will once again fly its livery under the ownership of former Hall Racing team manager -- turned team owner -- Gerald Davis.

Gualter Salles Jr., today, just signed a three-year deal with Mr. Davis.

"I'm really satisfied because the team agreed 100 percent to my requests," Salles said. "I consider it very important to test in the winter, what will make me learn the tracks and then giving me conditions to do a good job in the '97 season."

Salles, who is from Brazil, competed in the Indy Lights series in 1996 and won three races. He was in the hunt for the championship, but suffered mechanical failures in the last two races that took him out of the points battle.

Davis' new team, which still remains un-named, will have the 1997 Reynard chassis on Goodyear rubber. The powerplant is still being decided pending a decision, and sponsorship, of a possible second driver for the team.

Rumors about a second driver include such names as Roberto "Pupo" Moreno, who drove for Payton-Coyne in 1996, and former F1 driver, J.J Lehto, cannot be confirmed at this time.

It is reported that Davis' team will run a Ford if the team fields one car; and will run with Mercedes power if Salles is the lone driver for the team in 1997.
