Carl Haas, Co-Owner Newman/Haas Racing:

"Paul (Newman) and I are deeply saddened by the death of our good friend Jim Chapman. He has impacted my life both personally and professionally. Jim did a great deal to bring Indy car racing to its current level of success. Paul and I first met Jim in 1983 when we started Newman/Haas Racing.

He was the consummate professional. He was one of the first great marketers of the sport. Due largely to his contributions, the sport has evolved into a form of corporate entertainment. Many of his innovations are now common practice in the sport. He also had a great gift for being able to bring people together. He has touched so many people in his lifetime and made every one of them feel special. The sport has lost a great friend and contributor. We will all feel his loss for a long time."

Michael Andretti, driver of the #6 Kmart/Texaco/Havoline Indy Car:

"Jim was a special person. He was a personal friend of mine. I knew him for a good portion of my life. He could always bring out the best in a person. He single-handedly made more of a contribution to CART than any other individual during that time. He helped bring Indy Car racing to its current level. His involvement has been invaluable to our sport and he will always be remembered for his contribution. He’s going to be greatly missed. I lost a good friend."
