MIS No Longer "International"

DETROIT – Imagine coming out of Turn 4, racing down the front stretch to the finish line, and then heading straight into victory circle. It’s what everybody in racing dreams of – a dream that is symbolized in the new logos of the three tracks owned by Penske Motorsports, Inc. (PMI) (Nasdaq-NNM:SPWY) – Nazareth Speedway, California Speedway, and the renamed Michigan Speedway.

Rich Peters, PMI President and CEO, said, "With the construction of the California Speedway, we were looking for an exciting logo that represents our Company’s leadership position in the motorsports industry into the 21st century. During the process, we decided we wanted one, uniform identity for all PMI businesses. As part of creating the unified identity, we also dropped the word ‘International’ from the Michigan Speedway name." The logo was designed by Penske Motorsports by Pfanner Communications of Tustin, California.

Terry Bassett, PMI Vice President of Merchandise, Tires and Accessories, said, "The new logo will be used on 1997 merchandise produced and sold by Motorsports International, the marketing division of PMI. It will look great on all apparel, souvenirs and collectibles, which are now ready for purchase. To receive a brochure, customers can call 1-800-922-9040."

Signage being erected at the new California Speedway will feature the logo, while signs at Nazareth Speedway and Michigan Speedway will change over the winter. According to Jim Habitz, PMI sign department manager, more than 300 new signs, including those on retaining walls, water towers, pedestrian bridges, and banners, will be fabricated and painted at the sign production facility at Michigan Speedway. Habitz said, "Each one of our billboards weighs about 1,000 pounds, so I guess you could say we have tons and tons of work ahead of us."

Penske Motorsports, Inc. is a leading promoter and marketer of professional motorsports in the United States. PMI owns and operates, through it subsidiaries, Michigan Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan, and Nazareth Speedway in Nazareth, Pennsylvania; and PMI is constructing the California Speedway, a superspeedway near Los Angeles, California.
