Mansell To Test With Jordan - Scott Goodyear Confirms IRL Move

Nigel Mansell has been employed to test with the Jordan F1 team next Wednesday and Thursday at Barcelona. The announcement was made today (12/4/96) after a meeting with team owner, Eddie Jordan in Silverstone, England.

Nigel has previously mentioned that IndyCar would be his first choice for a "comeback" after his ill-fated F1 comeback attempt in 1995. But, the IndyCar naysayers are betting against Mansell ever racing again in IndyCar because of how he left IndyCar racing in 1994. Down, battered, beaten and whining....Burned bridges and all.

The F1 naysayers have the same bet--for the same reasons. Nigel attempted an F1 comeback in 1995 that was a total embarrassment to himself and to McLaren in which Mansell completed only two races.

Nigel left IndyCar and F1 an apparent open-wheel destitute. Or has he?

Scott Goodyear Confirms IRL Move
Scott Goodyear is apparently in negotiations to race in the 1997 IRL series. Scott recently held a live interview in Toronto and he said that he has 'unfinished business at Indy.'

Goodyear was the top pick at IndyCar's Team KOOL/Green until Parker Johnstone came into the picture, got the ride and left Scott with nowhere to go.

Scottie is apparently going to an un-named IRL team with heavy Canadian sponsorship in the form of Nortel and Quebecor.

More details as they become available.
