Goodyear Signs With IRL Team - Testing Continues At Firebird
Della Penna To Run Partial Season - Pruett Getting Married

Goodyear Signs With IRL Team
Scott Goodyear has signed with Treadway Racing in the Indy Racing League for next season as Arie Luyendyk's teammate.

"I am very excited to be able to join a team of this calibre," Goodyear said Wednesday in a news release. "The goals of the team are to field championship entries and my goal will be to win races and compete for the IRL championship. I am looking forward to returning to Indy where I plan on taking care of some unfinished business."

Goodyear has raced six times in the Indianapolis 500, with his best finish a second place in 1992. He finished 43-1,000ths of a second behind Al Unser Jr. in 1992, the closest finish in the prestigious race's history after starting in the 33'rd position.

He started in the front row in 1995 but was penalized for passing the pace car in the dying laps, costing him a victory that went to fellow Canadian Jacques Villeneuve.

"Both Scott and Arie have proven to be formidable on the oval tracks, and they bring tremendous depth and knowledge to the team," said team owner Fred Treadway.

Testing Continues At Firebird
SpeedCenter's Firebird "spy", Ramon Avila, reports that the Target team has left Firebird, but Bobby Rahal is there now and so is Al Unser Jr. SpeedCenter will have more spy photos online as they become available. Ramon also tells us that he'll get a decent stopwatch so he can send us some accurate times -- Thanks Ramon!

Della Penna To Race Partial Season
This just in: Della Penna has secured sponsorship money that should allow the team to race at least 14 of the 17 races this year with all new equipment (remember Hearn drove 1995 equipment last year). The team is desperately trying to secure more funding so that they can run a full season. However, this search has been unsuccessful for at least 3 months.

The team expects testing to begin in late January or early February. Ordinarily testing for the 1997 season would begin in late December or early January. However, Della Penna was one of the last owners to choose a setup package. Thus, the team will have to make do with a late delivery on equipment and less testing than most IndyCar drivers.

Scott Pruett Getting Married
It's official! Scott Pruett has announced that he and his longtime fiance, Judy Couch, will officially tie the knot just after midnight on New Year's day in a small ceremony to be attended by close friends and family.
