Use of the term "Indy car" the issue

Will it ever end? Apparently not, as there is still a disagreement over the use of the term, "Indy car."

On Wednesday CART president and CEO issued a follow-up statement in which he said that it was agreed that the term Indy cars or variations "have evolved into into descriptive terms for high-performance, single-seat, American, open-wheel-racing."

IMS officials said today the question of who can use the IndyCar brand name wasn't a major issue. But then went on to say that the term Indy car is not generic, and that the agreement allows the Speedway to regulate how CART and others use the term.

The Speedway also said that using "Indy cars" in CART promotional materials, like advertisements, wouldn't be permitted. However, he said it's possible the term could be used by CART in limited ways, such as in press releases.

How far this issue will go is anyone's guess. The fans have repeatedly said that they just wish the whole mess to be over with CART going their way and the IRL going theirs.

Let's just get back to racing, please.
