IndyCar Australia Exceeds
All Expectations

IndyCar Australia executive director Tony Cochrane said the 1996 IndyCarnival had exceeded all expectations.

He said that preliminary attendance figures showed that almost 220,000 people attended the race during the four days and at least an additional 100,000 have participated in off-track carnival events.

"It has certainly been the best Indy ever held in terms of the number of people who have become involved and embraced the IndyCarnival," he said.

"Because of the widespread community involvement in this event the economic impact will be greater than ever before.

"We have had people dancing in the streets, we have seen one of the world's greatest motor races and we have seen the Gold Coast at its best with spectacular weather and a fantastic event."
