Fabi To Drive For PacWest
At Long Beach

The PacWest Racing Group announced today that Teo Fabi, a veteran of 116 Indy car races, will drive for the team at the Long Beach Grand Prix this weekend. Fabi, 41, will drive a '96 Reynard/Ford-Cosworth as a substitute for Mark Blundell, who continues to recover from injuries he suffered in the Hollywood Rio 400 on March 17th.

"We believe that Teo, with the amount of talent and experience he possesses, will be the perfect replacement driver for us until Mark is 100 percent," said PacWest CEO Bruce R. McCaw. "Teo has had a very successful career in Indy car racing and we are confident he will be right at home this weekend, driving a car he is familiar with on a circuit where he has historically been strong."

Last season, Fabi drove a Reynard-Ford Cosworth for Forsythe Racing en route to a ninth-place standing in the PPG Indy Car World Series, three points ahead of current teammate Mauricio Gugelmin. Included in his 83 PPG Cup points was a third-place finish at Long Beach in 1995. In Fabi's last four starts at Long Beach, he has finished in the top-ten in each race.

Fabi, a native of Milan, Italy, burst upon the Indy car scene in 1983 when his six poles and four victories garnered him Rookie of the Year honors. All totaled, Fabi has collected 10 poles and five wins over nine Indy car seasons. From 1984-1987, Fabi competed in the Formula One World Championship driving for Brabham, Toleman-Hart and Benetton, respectively.
