Swift And Haas Join Forces For 1997

LONG BEACH (April 12, 1996) - In a joint announcement today at Long Beach, Swift Engineering and Carl Haas Distributorship officially revealed their plans to manufacture, distribute and race and all-new Swift chassis in the 1997 PPG Indy Car World Series. Haas will become the exclusive worldwide distributor of Swift Indy Cars and Newman/Haas Racing will assist in the development of the Swift chassis, the overall design of which will be the responsibility of David Bruns.

According to Haas and Swift, the first chassis is targeted for completion in December, 1996 with the goal of commencing testing for the 1997 season prior to January 1. Although the priority is to design, manufacture and produce race cars for Newman/Haas for the 1997 season, Swift and Haas hope to produce what they termed "a limited" number of chassis for customers next season before making the chassis widely available in 1998.
