Team Brahma Switches To Reynard - Vancouver Race In Jeopardy

Team Brahma Switches To Reynard
In an unprecedented move by Patrick Racing's Team Brahma with less than six weeks to go before the season begins, the team announced that they will be switching from the Lola to Reynard chassis for 1997.

Will the gamble pay off? Scott Pruett and Jim McGee seem to think so.

"I think Lola did a lot of work over the winter, but it looks like they're still a little behind the Reynard," said Pruett.

"Ford has made a large step forward and we're extremely pleased, but, with Brahma and Firestone, this is a very critical year for us and we want to have the best possible package."

"We're probably taking an educated gamble, but we can't afford not to have the best combination this season," said Jim McGee, team manager for Patrick Racing.

Vancouver Race In Jeopardy
Backers of the Molson Indy race want to move it from downtown Vancouver to the site of the Pacific National Exhibition in east Vancouver.

Molson officials said an information kit is being sent to people who live around the Pacific National Exhibition to outline the idea. There will also have to be meetings with the local residents and businesses, approval by the City Council and if not approved by March 31st, the Vancouver race will be cancelled in 1998.

The track has changed several times over the years due to continued construction around Concord Pacific Place and 1997 will be the last year it will be run at this site.
