Jourdain Jr. In Stable Condition After Accident At Sebring

Michel Jourdain of Payton Coyne Racing was in stable condition Wednesday after a testing accident at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Fla.

Jourdain Jr. crashed his Lola Ford into a concrete barrier near Turn 5 of the Indy car course test facility at approximately 11:45 a.m. ET. He was unconscious when safety workers arrived on the scene, but later regained consciousness. Jourdain was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where he was admitted for x-rays.

According to the attending physician, he was diagnosed with a concussion, but no other apparent injuries. He is scheduled to remain overnight for observation.

Jourdain’s test was in preparation for 1997 PPG Cup competition for the Illinois based racing team owned by Dale Coyne and NFL Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton. He is entered in next week’s Spring Training at the Metro-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex in the No. 19 Herdez/Mexlub/Viva Mexico! Lola T9700 Ford Cosworth XD. Bernie Myers is crew chief for the Firestone tired car.
