Veteran CART driver hurt in IRL testing run

BAY LAKE, Fla. — Davy Jones, who last year piloted the Galles entry in the PPG Indycar seriesand finished second at the IRL Indy 500, crashed during testing at the Walt Disney World Speedway.

Associated Press reports that he sustained serious internal head injuries after twice hitting theoutside wall of the track at high speed. After the impact, the unconscious Jones was transported by helicopter to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.

IRL officials did not release any official report regarding the reasons for the crash.

This just in (5pm central) from unconfirmed sources: Jones has regained consciousness, isresponding to doctor questions and might be out of the hospital by nextweek.
