Unser Jr. Wins IROC Opener!

Daytona Fla. Feb. 14 — PPG CART World Series star Al Unser Jr. charged from last on the grid to win Friday's opening round of the True Value Firebird International Race of Champions at Daytona International Speedway.

The victory, Unser, Jr.'s 11th IROC win in 41 starts, was his first on the oval at Daytona and avenges a last-lap loss to Dale Earnhardt in the 1995 Daytona IROC race when Unser Jr. and the NASCAR star had a controversial bumping incident on the back straight as Al Jr. led the final lap.

Unser, Jr. is the second driver in IROC history to win after starting last. The last driver accomplish the feat was Rusty Wallace at Daytona International Speedway in 1989.
