Laguna Seca, Calif. — Alex Zanardi, the last-lap winner of the season-ending PPG Cup round at Laguna Seca Raceway last year, paced the field Saturday in the first of two days of testing on the 2.238-mile circuit. A total of 14 PPG Cup competitors posted times Saturday.

Zanardi rounded the track at 117.740 mph (68.429 seconds) in his Target Reynard Honda. Paul Tracy was second fastest in a Penske Mercedes-Benz while Zanardi’s teammate Jimmy Vasser was third fastest on the day.
