Winner selected for Inaugural Jeff Krosnoff Scholarship

Rancho Santa Magarita, Calif. — It was announced today that Redwood High School senior James John Hurley of Visalia, Calif. is the recipient the inaugural Jeff Krosnoff Scholarship. The scholarship will award $10,000 to Georgetown University for the tuition and expenses of Hurley, who will attend the university this fall to pursue a degree in business.

The scholarship will be presented to James John Hurley by Tracy Krosnoff at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Tie Gala on Wednesday, April 9, 1997.

"It is our hope and goal that this scholarship will preserve the memory that we all have of Jeff and help some talented students reach some very lofty goals," said Jeff's wife Tracy. "If we can do this seccessfully then the promise and love that Jeff had every day of his life will endure forever."

Hurley's application was selected from more than 1,450 students who applied for The Jeff Krosnoff Scholarship. Applicants for the scholarship were required to submit a 1,000-2,000 word essay about a special experience or dream relevant to the attainment of their goals. Additionally, students were required to be a senior at a California high school, maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0, and display outstanding community citizenship.

The scholarship was created in the memory of race-car driver Jeff Krosnoff, who was also a published writer. This year marks the first of what will be an annual award gievn out to a deserving high school senior who shows the same spirit and enthusiasm for life that Jeff showed every day.

The Jeff Krosnoff Scholarship is a reality due to the generous contributions made by the following companies: Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund, California Speedway/Penske Automotive Group, Championship Auto Racing Teams, OCC Sports, Pfanner Communications, Precision Preparation, Inc., Toyota Motor Sales, USA and Valvoline.
