CART extends Contract with Surfer's

Contract extended through the year 2000

Championship Auto Racing Teams President and Chief Executive OfficerAndrew Craig and IndyCar Australia Executive Director Tony Cochranemet with the media Sunday to discuss the state of the PPG CART WorldSeries and CART's commitment to the Sunbelt IndyCarnival Australia.

The race is contracted through the year 2000. "I've been cominghere for four years, and every year I come here I say it's one of thebest-organized races we attend. It's a world-class event, and itshould be recognized as such. The management team we're working withdown here really does an excellent job." "The CART WorldSeries is truly a world series," said Cochrane. "The qualityof their series is fantastic; the quality of their drivers isfantastic. The fact that there are 10 to 12 drivers in the field whocould win this [race] is a tremendous indication of that."

226,130 spectators attended this year's IndyCarnival in Surfer'sParadise; a record crowd.
