Cohen joins CART to head racing organization's marketing efforts

Carl L. Cohen, who has an extensive consumerproduct business-to-business marketing background, has been namedExecutive Vice President of Series Marketing for Championship AutoRacing Teams, Inc., the sanctioning organization for the PPG CART WorldSeries.

The announcement was made by Andrew Craig, President and CEO for CART.

Cohen joined CART on May 12 and oversees the marketing, promotional,communications, and research functions for the organization.

"CART is an organization that is in a great position to further grow,and I am looking forward to being part of that," said Cohen, who joinsCART from Ryder Systems, where he most recently served as director ofmarketing. "The organization has an excellent vision and it's focus onbuilding a strong American racing base here, and then exporting it toselected markets around the world is a strategy that will work well.

"CART is a leader in collecting and maintaining strong and effectiveresearch and knowledge that is critical in enabling us to enhance thepartnerships we have with sponsors and promoters and grow our sport."

Prior to holding his position at Ryder, Cohen was brand director atPhilip Morris Companies in New York City. He worked on several brandsduring his eight year tenure, including Marlboro and Virginia Slims.Additionally, he gained event and sports promotion experience while atPhilip Morris. Cohen's background also includes marketing positions atAirwick Industries and Colgate Palmolive.

"We are fortunate to have an individual with Carl's experience andinsight to lead our marketing efforts," said Craig. "His understandingof positioning and marketing brands will help us significantly as weattempt to move CART to the next level among all sports, both here inNorth America and throughout the world."

Cohen has a master's degree in business administration with an emphasisin marketing from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.He received his undergraduate degree in accounting from the StateUniversity of New York in Albany. He and his wife, Robin, have twochildren.
