AP in Brazil reports that CART and F1 champion Emerson Fittipaldi wasseriously injured in a crash when his ultralight plane stalled andfell from about 300 feet altitude into a swamp. Fittipaldifractured his lower back. Doctors credit the soft swamp forFittipaldi's survival. Flying with Fittipaldi was his 6-year-old sonLuca, who miraculously escaped the wreck uninjured.

It is unclear at this time if Emerson will be relocated to a hospitalin Miami, where he recovered from his neck injuries sustained duringlast year's Marlboro 500 at Michigan Speedway.
