After NASCAR and IRL efforts, Robbie to drive at 240mph again

Robby Gordon (Hogan Motor Leasing Reynard Mercedes) makes his first and only appearance of the PPG CART World Series season in this weekend's Marlboro 500 Presented By Toyota.

Gordon has spent most of the year competing on the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit with mixed results. He was signed to drive for Hogan Racing LLC as a replacement for rookie Dario Franchitti who split with the team one race ago.

"In preparation for 1998, and so that we are completely focused on our performance at Fontana, we have entered into an agreement with Robby for the Marlboro 500," said team owner Carl Hogan. "His 1998 status will be discussed after this weekend's race."

Gordon's most recent start in the PPG CART World Series came in last year's season finale at Laguna Seca, where he started 16th and finished 15th. He has made 70 career starts in the series, with victories at Phoenix and Detroit, both in 1995 with Walker Racing. In nine career 500-mile Indy car starts, his best finish has been fifth, in 1994 and '95 at Indianapolis.

Gordon debuted in the series with Target/Chip Ganassi Racing and also raced for A.J. Foyt before joining Walker.

"I look forward to being a part of the Hogan Racing team and hope to contribute to a successful weekend," Gordon said.
