Teams announce tire brand switch for '98
Firestone announced Sunday that Team Rahal and Della PennaMotorsports has joined their CART stable for next season.
Team Rahal features driver/owner Bobby Rahal (Miller Lite ReynardFord) and Bryan Herta (Shell Reynard Ford) while Della PennaMotorsports has Richie Hearn (Ralphs Food 4 Less Lola Ford). Bothteams were Goodyear-shod this season.
"We could not ignore the strides Firestone has made in its program,"Rahal said. "Everyone at Team Rahal is excited about our newrelationship with Firestone. This move further adds to ourcompetitive edge."
"If you look at the results, it's been heavily populated at the frontof the field by Firestone teams," Hearn said. "We can't afford tohave any excuses for our performance. We need everything possible towin. We want to win and win now. I want immediate results and I feelthis is the way we need to go. I am looking forward to running onFirestones."
Firestone's victory at California Speedway Sunday was its 11th in arow and 13th of the season. The tire manufacturer also won 12 poles.
