Greg Moore at wheel of Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR at Sebring and Laguna Seca

SEBRING, Fla. (Oct. 16, 1997) — Greg Moore, the youngest racewinner in the history of the PPG CART World Series, has traded in hisPlayer's Forsythe Racing Reynard/Mercedes-Benz Indy car for a ride inMercedes' latest edition of the famous "Silver Arrows" racing cars: theV12-powered CLK-GTR. Moore joins the three-car, six driver TeamAMG-Mercedes for the final two rounds of the Federation Internationale del'Automobile (FIA) GT Championship, which will run at Sebring InternationalRaceway in Sebring, Fla., Oct 18, and at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey,Calif., Oct 26.

"I've been with Mercedes-Benz for the last two years in CART," saidMoore. "And I'm very happy to be part of their GT effort and the traditionof the Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows. Before Monday, I had only seen the caron television and in magazines, but from that first sight I thought it wasa fantastic car. I expressed my interest in driving it early in the seasonand discussed it with the Norbert Haug of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport. Thisis my first race in a non-formula car, but I'm really looking forward toworking with the successful and professional AMG-Mercedes team."

Moore, 22, scored two wins this season in PPG Cup competition,becoming the youngest-ever Indy car victor at The Milwaukee Mile, June 1,and returning to victory lane a week later at the Detroit Grand Prix. Herecorded five podium finishes and led nine times in five races and finishedthe season ranked seventh in points. The young Canadian, who resides inMaple Ridge, near Vancouver, in British Colombia, will partner experiencedsports car ace Klaus Ludwig in the three-hour American debut of the FIA GTseries, as part of the NAPA Auto Parts Sebring Octoberfest. The two willshare the AMG CLK-GTR sponsored by "CLK Sportswear," a popular Europeanadvertising campaign for the CLK coupe, the latest addition to theMercedes-Benz passenger car line.

Team AMG-Mercedes leads the FIA GT manufacturer's championshipstandings by 11 points over BMW, having scored four wins, sevensecond-place finishes and seven pole positions in nine races. BerndSchneider is currently second in the driver's championship, seven pointsbehind J.J. Lehto and Steve Soper. Fellow Mercedes drivers AlessandroNannini and Marcel Tiemann are tied for third with 34 points. Ludwig isfourth with 31, and Alexander Wurz (25) is the fifth Mercedes driver amongthe top five.
