New team announced in London today

By Peter Burke

The CART contructors champion Reynard Cars will be building a FormulaOne car for 1999. Reynard Cars partners with British American Tobaccoand Jacques Villeneuve's manager Craig Pollock in a takeover of theTyrrell team, forming a new constructor called "British AmericanRacing."

Formula One World Chamipion and former PPG CART champion JacquesVilleneuve is expected to drive the car after the end of the nextseason. Villeneuve has already won the CART title for Reynard in1995.

Earlier this year, competing constructor Lola attempted to establishitself in Formula One, but their effort wasshort-lived. The expensive failure also hurt Lola's presence in CART,with at this time no team officially announced to be campaigning aLola chassis in the 1998 CART World Series. Reynard claims to bebetter prepared to win in both, Formula One and CART.

To learn more about the new team, check out the offical pressconference on Audionet in either RealAudio or RealVideo format. TheTeam's website is already online at http://www.speedmedia.com/bar/ andit promises to track the making of the team from day one to the first race and beyond.

Is this good news for Reynard's competitors in CART? After the pressconference it was pretty obvious that these folks have done theirhomework. They have money, and they are not startig from scratch bytapping into Tyrrell's experience.
