Stellar sophmore season rewarded

PacWest Racing Group driver Mark Blundell, a three-time CART winner in1997, was honored in England this past weekend as AutosportMagazine's British Competition Driver of the Year at the 16th annualAutosport Awards in London.

Blundell won at Portland, Toronto and California Speedway to helpMercedes-Benz win nine races and its first CART Manufacturer'sChampionship.

"Mark really came on strong the second half of the season, and wecouldn't have won the title without the points that he earned," SaidHal Whiteford, vice president, operations, for Mercedes-Benz of NorthAmerica.

Recognized as one of Great Britain's top drivers, Blundell isoriginally from Barnet, Hertfordshire, England, and lives in ParadiseValley, Arizona in the United States.
