Federal Express has joined CART as the new title of FedEx ChampionshipSeries, but long-time CART backer and former series title sponsor PPGwill remain an important part of the organization's sponsorshipfamily. PPG will continue to provide the prestigious PPG Cup to theannual winner of the FedEx Championship Series in addition tocontributing to the year-end prize fund.
PPG joined CART full time in its second season of operation in 1980 astitle sponsor of what was then a 12-race championship contestedprimarily in North America. In 1998, the FedEx Championship Serieswill feature 19 races in five countries on four continents.
