CART Contingent strong at Rolex 24 at Daytona

FedEx Championship Series drivers were among the most impressive performers last weekend during a three-day test for the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway. Max Papis of Arciero-Wells/MCI Racing was second-fastest of the three-day session in a Ferrari 333 SP, averaging 128.651 mph, more than a mile-per-hour faster than the track qualifying record of 127.578 mph set last year by Fermin Velez.

Meanwhile, Patrick Racing's Scott Pruett dominated the GTI class in a Panoz GTR, averaging 123.076 mph, which would obliterate the previous class record of 118.154 mph set by Olivier Baretta last year. Newman/Haas Racing co-owner Paul Newman is listed as a co-driver on both the car tested by Pruett and the GTI entry which was tested by Andy Wallace at 122.423 mph.

Tasman Motorsports Group driver and 1997 PPG-Firestone Indy Lights champion Kanaan is listed as co-driver on a Ford Mustang competing in the GTI category while 1988 PPG Cup champion Danny Sullivan is tabbed as a co-driver of a Porsche 911, also in GTI. The 36th Rolex 24 at Daytona takes the green flag Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. ET.
