Temecula, California teen chosen from 850 entrants

It was announced today that Temecula Valley High School senior Kristen Von Minden, of Temecula, Calif., isthe recipient of the second annual Jeff Krosnoff Scholarship. The scholarship will award $10,000 toDartmouth College for the tuition and expenses of Von Minden, who will attend the university this fall topursue a double major in Economics and Asian Studies.

Tracy Krosnoff, wife of the late Jeff Krosnoff, will present the scholarship to Kristen Von Minden at theToyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Black Tie Gala on Wednesday, April 1, 1998.

"This scholarship is such a gratifying way to pay tribute to a man who was so generous in spirit," TracyKrosnoff said. "Jeff strongly believed in helping others. We feel fortunate that through assisting adeserving student with their education we are able to carry on in Jeff's name the work that was dear to hisheart."

Von Minden's essay, titled "Fear Not", was selected from more than 850 students who applied for the 1998Jeff Krosnoff Scholarship. Applicants for the scholarship were required to submit a 1,000-2,000 wordessay describing their personal credo and how it is relevant and inspirational in their life. Students werealso required to be a senior at a California high school, maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0, anddisplay outstanding community citizenship.

This scholarship was established in memory of race-car driver Jeff Krosnoff, who was tragically killed ina racing accident on July 14, 1996. Jeff's personal credo was "Stay Hungry" and he lived everyday withthat inspiration. This year marks the second of what will be an annual award given out to a deservingCalifornia high school senior who shows the same spirit and enthusiasm for life that Jeff showed every day.

The Jeff Krosnoff Scholarship is a reality due to the generous contributions made by the followingcompanies: Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund, California Speedway/Penske Automotive Group,Championship Auto Racing Teams, Grand Prix Foundation of Long Beach, MCI Communications, MolstarSports and Entertainment, OCC Sports, Pfanner Communications, Precision Preparation Inc., Toyota MotorSales USA, and Valvoline.
