Forsythe Racing Pre-Race Release

Patrick Carpentier, coming off a second career poleposition in Milwaukee, and teammate Greg Moore, with vivid memories of last year'sexciting victory here, are ready to take charge of the reconfigured Racewayon Belle Isle as the Champ Cars roll into Detroit for Round Eight of the FedExChampionship Series.

Carpentier thinks the first street course of the season may be the turnaroundpoint where he and the Blue Crew shake the bad luck that has been haunting theForsythe Team.

"Maybe the change to a street course will get this monkey off our back. We hada very fast car in Milwaukee. I know we'll be quick in Detroit. If we can justshake this bad luck, we'll be up there at the front on race day all the wayuntil the checkered flag waves," said Carpentier.

Defending race champion Moore fondly remembers his last lap at the Detroitcircuit last year when he took the checkered flag after PacWest teammatesMauricio Gugelmin and Mark Blundell ran out of fuel. Moore is also looking totake back the points lead in the PPG Cup Championship, in which he trails sevenpoints behind Alex Zanardi, 85-92.

"I think the fans are going to see an exciting race in Detroit. In the past it's been the toughest track to pass on, but I think you'll see a lot of action onthe new long straight they've added. To win the race, it will definitely comedown to qualifying in front, being fast, staying out of trouble, and fast pitstops," said Moore. "Last year was great for the Forsythe Team. The last lapwas unbelievable. I thought, 'Okay, I'm on the podium.' Then Mo ran out offuel, then Mark. Suddenly the race was mine. I'm looking to get ForsytheRacing at least another podium, and hopefully another victory."

The green flag for the running of the ITT Automotive Detroit Grand Prix, held atThe Raceway on Belle Isle, will wave at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 7. ABC-TV willbroadcast the event live at 2:30 p.m. EST
