The following announcement was made by CART's Chief Steward WallyDallenbach following Friday's provisional qualifying: Paul Tracy (KOOL Reynard Honda), placed on probation by CART ChiefSteward Wally Dallenbach for an incident at the ITT Detroit GrandPrix, has been fined $20,000 and will be excluded from Saturday'squalifying for today's incident with Michel Jourdain Jr. (Herdez/VivaMexico! Reynard Ford). Dallenbach cited Tracy for unjustifiable risk, according to rule 8:13of the CART Rule Book, for the incident that occurred with MichelJourdain Jr. during the qualifying session for Group Two. "As far as the Friday incident, the accident was preventable andshould not have happened on an outlap for both race cars," saidDallenbach, referring to the lap when the drivers exited the pits andwere still getting up to speed. With the decision, Tracy will be forced to stand on Friday'squalifying time (59.630 sec./ 118.752 mph), which currently ranks12th among 28 drivers. Tracy will be allowed to participate inSaturday's practice session, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. P.T. | ||
