Dallenbach fines Zanardi, Moore; places Herta on probation

After reviewing the race video tapes and talking with all drivers involved in the incidents, CART chief steward WallyDallenbach assessed the largest fine in CART series history:Alex Zanardi was found guilty of unjustifiably risky driving, beingthe passing car in the the Andretti and Castro-Neves crashes.A wing piece of JJ Lehto's car clipped by Zanardi landed in PJ Jones'lap, causing him to lose steering control of his car, resulting in contact with Michael Andretti. Later, with two laps to go, his attempt to pass Castro-Neves forced the Brazilian rookie into the tire barrier.

Zanardi was fined $50,000. The one Championship point earned for his 12th place finish was deducted from his points total. In addition to these penalties, Zanardiwas placed on probation.

Greg Moore was fined $5,000 for the pit lane incident. Bryan Herta did nor receive a fine, but was placed on probation for the firstlap incident that took out polesitter Dario Franchitti, Jimmy Vasser and Michel Jourdain Jr. who all got caught up in the wreck.
