Silly season is getting thick in August

German Sat-1 TV reports that a transfer of the currently heavily criticized Heinz-Harald Frentzen from Formula 1 to CART is becoming more and more likely.

Frentzen made this interesting statementin his hometown's newspaper: "They (CART) offer a great sport - it's extremely excitingracing, and itwould be an interesting new challenge to face."

Frentzen's contract with Williams runs out at the end of the season. He is mentioned in multiple silly season scenarios, ranging from following Jacques Villeneuve to BAR, to possibly returning to Sauber, where he drove before joining Williams, or joining Jordanor Prost. In the context of CART, he has been mentioned in the context of Bobby Rahal's retirement, and evenwith the coveted seat at Ganassi to be vacated by Alex Zanardi (among insiders, Zanardi's move to Williams is considered a done deal).

Frentzen's manager Ortwin Podlech supports Frentzen's views of the CART series. He describes Formula 1 as not being "the navel of theworld in motor sports." His protege Frentzen dreams of a shift in the German motor sports fanbase focus whose controversial number onedriver is Michael Schumacher, which may just need a German celebrating wins in the United States.

In current news Frentzen said he would make his decision about where he will drive in 1999still this month. Rahal said earlier this season that he would announce his replacement driver in August...
