Front row is a Mid Ohio repeat

Dario Franchitti dominated the second qualifying day at Vancouver by setting fast lap early in the session. He nevergave up the lead, although Zanardi and later Herta came close. This is Franchitti's fourth pole position this season.

The Scott lapped the new 1.802 mile course at 64.130 seconds (101.157 mph), eclipsing Bryan Herta by a margin of only0.088 seconds when it was all said and done. Zanardi came in third after holding the provisional pole from yesterday.

The top 18 qualifiers are within one second behind the pole sitter, making this one of the tightest fields this season. Previous winners of the Molson Indy at Vancouver Andretti, Unser Jr. and Gugelmin qualified in 6th, 22nd and 13th position respectively.

The same front row lineup caused a mass accident at the recent Mid Ohio race, taking out Herta, Franchitti, Vasser and Jourdain Jr. in the first lap. Tomorrow's race will show if the involved drivers have learned how to cope with that first turn.
