Indianapolis Oct 8, 1998 — It was announced Thursday that Juan Pablo Montoya has signedwith Target Gansssi Racing to become Jimmy Vasser's teammate for the 1999 season and beyond. The 23-year-old Colombian native is the champion of the 1998 FIAFormula 3000 Championship. He is better known as the official test driverfor the Williams Formula 1 tea, The little known Montoya is said to have signed a 3-year deal with Ganassi. He will have a chance to drive a Champ Car in late October at a test session in Homestead, before he will attend the last CART race of the season as a spectator. Ganassi observed Montoya two weeks ago while attending a Formula 1 test in Spain togetherwith Alex Zanardi who tested for Williams, the team he will be joining and Montoya will be leaving. | ||
