Gugelmin puts some miles on the new car

November 19, 1998 - Sebring, FL - Mauricio Gugelmin logged 138 laps for 228 miles during thesecond day of testing the new 1999 Reynard Champ Car at Sebring International Raceway.Gugelmin's #17 Hollywood PacWest Mercedes-Benz set a fast time of 52.2 seconds. Althoughslower than yesterday's 52-second run, the team was not in search of speed and ran aconsistent load of fuel in the car.

"We basically ran through the range of the aero package and analyzed the attitude ofthe car," commented Gugelmin. "I like what I see. The basic setup is decent. We'vealready shaved time off where we were last year and there is still a lot to come. The car is much better under braking which was an area we struggled with last year. We've done a ton of miles in the car and the package is very encouraging."

Gugelmin and the team will complete the three day test tomorrow.
