Forsythe creates "McDonald's Champ Car Team"

Owner Gerald Forsythe todayannounced the creation of theMcDonald's Champ Car Team,which will compete in theChampionship Auto Racing Team'sFedEx Championship Seriesbeginning with the 1999 season.

"We are extremely proud to haveformed a strategic partnership thatbrings McDonald's into Champ Carracing while allowing our operation to expand," Forsythe said."The global profile that will come with this team will be greatfor everyone involved, McDonald's, the series and ourassociate sponsors."

CART President and CEO Andrew Craig said: "I can't tell youhow pleased I am to have a company of such internationalmagnitude and prestige as McDonald's on board in ChampCar racing. The FedEx Championship Series is the premieropen-wheel racing category in North America, and alsoboasts a growing international presence both in television andthrough our races in Australia, Brazil, Canada and Japan. Weare looking forward to working with McDonald's to maximizethe benefits of the sponsorship for all involved."


The technical package to be used by the new team, as well asa driver and other details, will be announced shortly.

Gerald Forsythe has been involved with Champ Car racingsince 1983. In addition to the new partnership withMcDonald's, the Forsythe racing empire includesPlayer's/Forsythe Racing, a two-car Champ Car effort withdrivers Greg Moore and Patrick Carpentier. Player's/ForsytheRacing also competes in the KOOL/Toyota AtlanticChampionship, and won the series title in 1998 with driverLee Bentham. Forsythe is a director and limited partner inBritish American Racing in the FIA Formula One WorldChampionship. He also is a partner with fellow CART ownerFrank Arciero Sr. in the new Yuba County Motorplex nearSacramento, Calif.

Outside of racing, Forsythe serves as Chairman and CEO ofthe Indeck Group of Companies, a world leader in the design,construction and operation of state-of-the-art power facilitiesand power equipment.

McDonald's is the world's largest and best-known globalfoodservice retailer, with more than 23,300 restaurants in 111countries. Approximately 85 percent of McDonald's U.S.restaurants are owned and operated by independentfranchisees.
